Course description

The Young Art Studio course explores a different theme from term to term with a focus on developing the drawing skills of students. Throughout the term we encourage utilisation of an abstract artistic process including research, experimentation, skill development and ideation in order to provide students with core drawing skills which we believe are hugely important in the development of their visual language.

The Young Art Studio course employs a high tutor-to-student ratio to ensure that each student and their specific needs are catered for. Students study drawing, painting and collage, using a variety of fine art materials. In addition, students are exposed to, and able to use, our pottery facilities, as well as exploring printmaking and use of our very own etching machine as a means of exposing them to as much of the creative process as possible. At the end of each term, students will go home with a workbook documenting the research that they have done, their experimentation, the skills they’ve developed and ideas they’ve conceptualised as well as a final project consisting of a large-scale print or sculpture.
